Congratulations Nokwanda!

Nokwanda Mchunu (second from left) accepts her award from Minister of Small Business Development, Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa (second from right) November 17, 2023. The event was held at The Indaba Hotel in Johannesburg South Africa.

Nokwanda Mchunu, Owner of Pink Print Farm Produce, has won the South African Presidential Award for Entrepreneur of the Year in the rural-based SMME (Small, Medium and Micro-Enterprise) category, carrying a cash prize of R100,000.

The Awards considered nearly 4000 candidates in 13 different categories. With one winner per category, competition was tough and winning this award is an exceptional honour.

Our relationship with Nokwanda began when her butchery business won the R50,000 first prize at the 2021 Building Better Businesses Symposium. In April 2022, her business suffered catastrophic floods. She fought through this difficult time and The Townships Project was able to help her business recovery with an equipment contribution of R100,000.

Congratulations to Nokwanda Mchunu and her team at Pink Print, and thank you to AG Marlene Larter and others at the Pietermaritzburg Rotary Club and to PDG Grant Daly for facilitating our support of Nokwanda’s business.
