One-Day Symposium in South Africa

On 20 January 2025, The Townships Project convened a one-day Symposium for the leadership of the four economic development projects that it supported in the past year in order for them to meet one another. The event was hosted at the Kagiso Hub in Krugersdorp. The Kagiso Hub is the brainchild of Shawn Theunissen of Growthpoint Properties, the largest listed property company in South Africa. There were about 25 invitees who shared their stories of challenges, some successfully overcome and some still in the wrestling ring.

  1. Plumbing companies supported at the Kagiso Hub in Chamdor, Krugersdorp;
  2. Mechanics training at Kgabo Cars in Soshunguve Township north of Pretoria;
  3. Early Childhood Development business training for existing ECD centres in and around Zandspruit and Liv-Lanseria near Johannesburg; and
  4. A female-owned butchery in Maphumulo, KwaZulu Natal.

A Successful Day

The Townships Project Founder and CEO, Martha Deacon, attended the Symposium to meet with many of our partners and program participants. Her report to the board has detailed a great day of networking and sharing among participants and great optimism about the progreess of the four projects we are supporting.
