The Townships Project has lost our most tireless supporter and friend.
Jocelyn was our organizations’s founding Chair and remained active with us from our beginning. In 1998 Jocelyn and Martha Deacon attended the World Council of Churches in Zimbabwe and heard a call from Nelson Mandella to tackle poverty in South Africa. An idea was born to tackle poverty through micro-loans to the poorest, mostly women entrepreneurs, and offer a hand-up out of poverty. Jocelyn brought her heart, her soul, her outstanding wisdom and many talents to The Townships Project.
Jocelyn served as our Chair, a Director and Chair Emerita right until her passing. We will miss her listening ear, her wise counsel, her ever present sense of fun and her gift of profound fellowship with all humanity.
She has been an outstanding mentor to me and I will be forever grateful for that. My deep sympathies and those of The Townships Project board to her family at this time.
– Martha Deacon.
